You know, Cosmicforce, I have to tell you my eyes blur out and my ears go numb and my mind just sort of spins when I read tracts like the one you shared about the Adventists in 1841. My own observations tell me that grim biblical imagery can be a distraction from repressed feelings coming up. I think sometimes really hurt and damaged people choose forbidding religions so that there is so much churning, dire verbiage that their own pain stays locked up inside them, where is is not quite so frightening. Just reading it reminded me of Bible summer school, a horror of my own childhood that I would not wish on my worst enemy.
