People have different strengths. Maybe it's just a small minority that can hack, AND ENJOY spending time with the math.

The hidden reason? They can't hack the math. Why not? We don't teach it as well as other countries.

I think that has some truth to it. In high school, I wanted to go to college for engineering. Until I realized how much math I'd have to wade through. Nipped that in the bud.

I can do the math, got Bs in pre-calculus in HS. But I hate it. I think many bright kids are like that - "I can do it, but why would I want to? It's booooring." And kids that are good in math are nerds. That isn't as much of a stigma as it used to be, but there's still less prestige in math and sciences.
