I'm beginning to think that the issue in the USA is a poor power structure. When the population is very evenly divided, it is a winner takes all issue. Somehow the political power structure should reflect the relative votes. We should not be arguing over the last few 100 votes because the implications are so large. I wonder what structures might work for the executive branch that would accomplish this (other than getting rid of it)? In CA, the initiative process requires I think a 60 or 65% plurality for it to pass. I don't see how that would work in candidate elections because most candidates get less than 60%. In Seattle, they are building a monorail line that passed by only 600 votes.........its very frustrating to the opposition when the vote plurality is that small. I really don't know what else we can do........its clear that there is a major division of thinking within the country and even within some states. I suspect it has existed in one form or another for a while but it seems to have gotten more extreme of late.

In some foreign countries, they have a better system where the Vice President has to come from a different Party than President while their version of Congress is required to have political diversity. Each and every minority group gets represented. The USA system really needs to be rewritten. It also means that ethnic, religious and gender diversity occurs. For example, you wouldn't have a situation where a bunch of old white men control the rights of young women. Regards, Amy J
