y. Are you suggesting that Protestantism and Christianity be classified as two different religions?

No, not really. Actually I was born and baptized a Lutheran later to become a Catholic. About the only difference I see between the two today is that the Catholics put a higher importance on Mary and Joseph plus confession whereas the Lutherans dont. It was explained to me once as a young man by a priest who said to me, "If you wanted to ask the BIG BOSS for a favor, wouldnt you feel better having one or both of his Lieutenants on your side?". Made a lot of sense to ME. haha.

The only thing I am saying about the founders of USA is that they didnt want the STATE to saddle any citizen with any religion. I seriously doubt they gave much consideration to Islam or Buddiasm or any of the other major religions which at the time had little or no influence in the New World. On the other hand, it is VERY CLEAR that much of our law and our beliefs are based upon JUDEOCHRISTIAN values. Why not admit it and move forward? jdn

kholt, The amendment is very clear on the subject of religion, and is constantly being misinterpreted. Paraphrased, all it says is, that there will be no government forced religion. At the time, that was needed to prevent such things as the mandated Anglican church in Britain, and the Catholic domination of nations such as Spain, and Italy. They don't say that religion should not be allowed in the nation. They don't say that a group of people of the same religion do not have the right to form a political bloc, and decide how they want to vote. Above all, they did not say that one religion should bow to the wishes of another, or the wishes of atheists, wiccans, druids, Black Panthers, or the KKK.
