I can easily imagine how impartiality and due process might fail when faced with the power of the vocal mob. The Stokes Trial in particular comes to mind. So far, the American justice system, though far from perfect, has at least not fallen prey to the lynching mob. I'll reiterate that I was impressed by the apparent fairness of the judge and the attentiveness of the jury. If only we could all withold final judgement until those with the fullest information and the least bias make their determination. Although their minds may be blinded by bias, most people intend to find the just solution. Then there are those evil ones who have no such intention.
