Hi Whitepine - Agree strongly with the second paragraph, in fact colleges are now pushing "perpetual students" out. With about >40% or more of the 18 year olds going to some college, there is a bit of dimmenishing returns setting in....loans replacing some of the grants for education would make many students more focused.

I'm middle 50s in age, in pretty good health and I've gotten a great benefit from my much younger doctors and slightly younger dentist. Worth far more to me than they will get paid.

There are lots of studies showing educational RESULTS(such as test scores) for nations correlate strongly with economic growth. Many studies in the US showing that educational SPENDING (especially K-12) doesn't tend to produce RESULTS.

Vermont and New Hampshire are two similar states, and Vermont spends more on K-12 with out much better results than New Hampshire.
