The minimum wage was designed so that poor families could at least afford housing and food. Now many cannot. While it is true that there are a lot of teenagers slinging burgers making minimum wage, a lot of disadvantaged families have adults making minimum wage as well. There is absolutely no real need for goods to be so inexpensive in America that workers preparing and selling them cannot afford housing and food.

Most Americans suffer from a glut of material abundance. We could stop the obscene waste of resources and at the same time help poor families by increasing the cost of food and retail items enough that the minimum wage provided a bare bones survivable wage. Many people in homeless shelters have full-time jobs. Many people in line at food banks do as well. These numbers are increasing. There is absolutely no excuse for that, especially in a "Christian" nation.
