In a nutshell, the world today is not investing heavily enough in the basic alternative energy infrastructure it will need when the cost of a barrel of oil rises to the new levels that are easily anticipated by understanding the depletion curves that constitute the global Hubbert's Peak analysis.

After the depletion of all the "low hanging fruit" in the conventional crude oil sector, we will, in essence, be too broke to afford to go on to other energy sources.
