Odd thing about those rockfish, when I was a kid I used to read about them being caught from South Carolina to the Chesapeake Bay up to Cape Cod, some in the 50-60 pound size. Now on the fishing shows they're thrilled to catch an 8 pounder.

Rockfish are like salmon, live in saltwater and breed in fresh water. When the Sanatee-Cooper dam was built spawning rockfish were trapped in the 2 fresh water lakes. Surprize, they survived and did well. Now they are in lakes all over the US and that is where the 40 pounders are coming from.
