My basic point is that we don't have a convincing study with large numbers that prove the relative merits of public vs. private medical care. I personally have no conviction about this.
I enjoy the free operations for my wife but I don't enjoy paying the high income and capital gains taxes. It's a wash for me personally.
Mz Zhang's point that blacks, Hispanics etc. eat a poor diet hence have a shorter life expectancy, is valid, I think. Poor diet of the blacks is one more heritage of slavery. When the races really become equally educated, the life span of blacks will increase, hence the average life span of Americans will increase, other things being equal.
Naturally I think the US is going towards disaster, so other things aren't equal.
