Dolinar, your assumption is that Putin will stop at Yukos and I think I disagree.

Do you remember what Unlimited Power does to decent people? Now take into account that Putin actually got his world view trough the concepts prevailing at the KGB under Brezniev, were he also learned perfect German. Remember the saying about the wolf? he changes his fur but not his "wolfiness". So Putin learned the niceties needed to deal with the Western Leaders …. He just played his cards with Germany to distance even more the SPD and Germany from the US. All of a sudden he needs the tax money from Yukos and pays in advance a loan that was not asked for to do saving Germany some headaches related to their EU zone rules violations.

Further I would ask a different question - since when "White Russia " has a right over the natural resources of the Urals and Siberia? ... just because they conquered it?

In other words Putin could declare in short order that actually all of the Caspian Basin oil belongs to Russia.

Aside from being heated with Gasprom gas are you thinking how would you react if the price goes up just because or better true to Russian old tactics the gas will just not flow continuously ... because your country reneged some Russian overseas interests ... hope you remember the stories about the Russian assistance to Eastern Europe Partisans in WWII..... let them starve send them guns so they will fight harder .... not to mention the Warsaw uprising which was leaded by courageous people but not in Russian liking.

At least in Romania there is a saying – “give Russian an finger and they will take you the whole hand” … and I think they are right.

The earlier they stop Putin expansionist ambitions the better or we will end up with another Evil Empire like or similar to the 80th’s
