Yes, thank you Ionesco for pointing the statement out. That Saddam was a secularist who kept Iraq under tight control and out of the influence of Islamic terrorists is something I have been arguing for awhile here myself. Unfortunately there is something about the right wing that I noticed for the first time during the debate about the Vietnam war. They seem very ideological in their pursuit of war, and don't really let the facts fall where they may. They ignore reality to the long-term detriment of the United States, and especially our poor troops who are so damaged by war's brutality. Bush knew exactly how to distort the facts to get the right wing all riled up to support the effort, but he was playing on their patriotism and ignorance (for which the right should really feel insulted).
