Hello maurice, You are of course wrong, and only natural.

Just for example, <<China might well have been better ruled by post-war Japan>> ... I wonder how many in China would disagree with you, enough that the solution would be wrong, and therefore you are wrong.

You make the debate too easy.

Chugs, Jay

Hey maurice, regarding this ... <<My parents and especially my mother were proponents of Mao and all that socialism stuff>> ... did it ever occur to you that they thought as they did because they were there, in time and space, and understood that there were truly no other viable alternatives.

You know, as you sometimes feel differently from your kid, simply because you knew better and understood?

But, in any case, thaks for the followon comments, as I am enthusiastic to hear brian respond that he would prefer the Chinese to be ruled by Japan, rather then by the Chairman.

I wonder if he would do it :0)

Chugs, Jay

MQ - Here you are deep into your own perspectives and have forgotten how Mao's gang at one time turned to US for economic aid and cooperation but instead got sanctioned because of the virulent anti-communism fervor in the US. Why, Zhou's hero was George Washington and early American revolutionary leaders in their struggle to become independent from British rule and colony. It was a no win situation for China back then in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. It was either be subservient like Hop Sing character, or entrenched themselves for self sufficiency, self reliant and most important of all - pride. Of course this is so difficult if impossible for you or Brian to grasp, feel, or understand. One thing sure stands out, them folks are not welfare types.

If only US had listened to General Stillwell and sided with Mao's group (instead of listening to Mme Chiang, the western kiss ass selling out China), then perhaps China would have the chance to grow up together, among men on equal terms, and there would not be today's condition of economically lagging China and become the factory of the world. But you, of all people, should realize that it was not possible back then because American perspective of them folks (and apparently you still do, presently) was that they were considered as mere coolies worthy to be on welfare and be cooks, servants, laundries, and work on the railroads. After all, here in the US at that time, Black Americans were required to sit at the back of the bus. Samo with the Maorists, huh?.

Don't be so thick as to deny any of this. Just remember the denigrading and racist words you used to say about the Maorists. I know your kind. Prove me wrong and tell us how you have wasted half your wealth for the good of the Maorists.

It was a passage of time where cruelty, inequality and hardship had to take place and endured if them Chinese folks were to grow to become the world citizens they are today and tomorrow. Back then half century ago, it was not just Chinese, but also many minority groups in the US (Blacks, Native Americans, and Chicanos) were oppressed. It was not until the late 60's when special legislations were implemented to prevent such discriminations. That was the time of the Cultural Revolution on opposite side of the earth.
