Local Hero is one of my favorites too, I've watched it four or five times.

I was really bitter last year that In America didn't get a big audience in the U.S., I thought it was the best movie of the year. Great characters and performances, especially from the child actors. The scene at the carnival where he is trying to win the stuffed toy was the most agonizing, suspenseful movie scene that I can remember.

Yes, thank you for remembering Local Hero. It is one of my all-time favorites as well. Another sweet, small movie in the same tradition is Eat the Peach, an Irish movie from the '80's about two young Irishmen who are inspired by Elvis Presley and erect a Wall of Death motorcycle course in their backyard. Really nice film.
