excellent post but where was George a year ago....he is always talking from hindsight.......

I and others have been saying for years that the fight had to be a "black ops" mission a total direction of counter insurgency fought with every dirty trick known to man and some new ones.......

A certain mindset has to be developed by our intelligence services...it is too late for our Senate and Congress, they are hopelessly bogged down in self service....

it is now and always has been a simple equation of
"my tribe, your tribe"....

once acknowledged as such and the right warriors placed in charge of the situation things will change in our favor....

in the meantime we must endure the Don Imus's, Phil Donahues, Nancy Pelosi's and a million other talking heads that get paid to flap their lips, George Friedman included......and add Tom Friedman to that list.....

the list of the folks that know are G Gordon Liddy, General Franks, Ollie North, and most right wingers....and many more to many to list all here....

regards

Chuck

"George Friedman", another sorry case.

I'm sure he has never participated in how to plan and implement resistance to an occupation force, as so many have have both planned, learned but fewer have had to implement.

"The goal of the Untied States in
Vietnam was, and now in Iraq is, to shift the war-fighting burden -- in this
case from U.S. forces to the Iraqis. This can never happen. The Iraqi army,
like the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, is filled with guerrilla
operatives"

"The United States cannot win the intelligence war on the ground level. Its
operations to penetrate the guerrillas depend on Iraqis working with the
United States and these operations will be quickly compromised. The
guerrillas on the other hand cannot be rooted out of the Iraqi military and
intelligence organs because they cannot be distinguished from other Iraqis.
Some will be captured. Many might be captured. But all of them cannot be
captured and therefore no effective allied force can be created in Iraq. This
was the center of gravity of the problem in Vietnam, the problem that
destroyed Vietnamization. It is the center of gravity of the problem in Iraq."

and then, funny stuff

"Missed Opportunities

There were two points where the problem could have been solved"

Wow, stupidity at it's worst... (As Irak knew Bush would make a second try)..
