Afganistan was far easier perhaps because their was a usable anti-govt force already in place and ready to fight. I have often wondered what would have happened if we had used the Pash Merga as we used the Northern Alliance.

Doesn't everything remain to be seen. It's a scenario . To some predictable from the beginning as it is to me...

I didn't write the script but it is playing out as I had thought it would and I truly HOPE that the lines change and the conclusion and that the epilogue is not one that parallels Viet Nam.
