Hi all, Japan just upped their aid relief to $500 million. It looks like the whole world is upping their aid packages in fits and starts as the scope of this disaster becomes clear. In addition, it looks like alot of countries are so afraid of bad press that this relief effort has turned into a bidding war. Silly, because it seems the relief is not coming from the heart, but from the PR department, but nevertheless it's good for the tsunami victims, so we should be happy for them.

My biggest problem with this whole frenzy the media created is that the next time a large disaster like this happens, it will be "old hat" and people will not care as much. I sometimes think that freedom of the press is a pandora's box. It's essential to keep people accountable to the rest of the world, but it's also incredibly out of control. We are now managing the world by the polls and that's scary, because it makes governments very flighty instead of steadfast.
