The United States is not actually a democracy--it's a representative republic. There are free societies all over the world, particularly in Europe, that do not side with Israel. Usually in international politics, you side with countries that you need for some reason, not based on what kind of government they have. Our security interests cause us to side with Israel, which could have Attila the Hun running it (well, Sharon is close), and that would be irrelevant, really, as to whether they were our ally. We are the ally of nasty little dictatorships all over the globe, now that I think about it.

The Arabs have been a little upset since the last crusade, but really if we had just stayed out of the Arab lands and not let Israel establish a state there, either, things would be a lot more peaceful than they are now. And Bush calling his vision of what we should inflict on the Arabs next a Crusade certainly didn't help matters any, either.
