I agree. Hour(s) went by before the wave hit after a 9 earthquake everyone knew about.

Wonder what an "all call" broadcast system to cell phones would run? Should be easy to implement in the software.

But then again, that would have probably failed also.....

I think the good old USA will come through fairly well in the end, government, corps. and individuals. The only fault I see is that some damn seismologist could have placed a few more phone calls in the first few hours and possible have saved a lot of lives. But that would have required thinking...

Three reasons......initial reports indicated the quake was in the 6.0 category and not a 9.0 level which is a huge difference. Not all underwater quakes result in life threatening tsunamis. Thirdly, tsunamis are virtually nonexistant in the Indian Ocean are where this one hit.
