Iraq is a war of choice whether one supports it or not. WW2 was quite different and whatever the cost, it had to be fought even thru those dark days in 1942.
Iraq is nowhere near as dark, but it does not change my belief that we have to review where we are and probably make changes post election. Fighting the sunnis makes no sense because we just cant win. Going to fall back positions in the south and north and letting the sunnis duke it out with each other while we help protect the 14 safe provinces makes some sense to me. US and Iran working together to a common end or more realisticly US and Iran balancing each other with Sistani.
General McCafferty quoted King Abdulla yesterday who looks at a ahiaa run state as the end of the world. These potentates and dictators should look in the mirror first. Sunnis havent done so well and perhaps shiaas can move to more progressive system faster than sunnis? We cant be held hostage to sunnis and sunni regimes while they dont lift a finger to help us. mike
