How will radically changing marriage benefit society? Still waiting for that argument.

I think the most interesting point in Sowell's piece is this:

<<Marriage is not a right extended to individuals by the government. It is a restriction on the rights they already have.>>

He ignores the bigger question. If his point that "people who are simply living together can make whatever arrangements they want, whether they are heterosexual or homosexual" is valid, then why would anybody choose to get married? I still haven't heard a good explanation for that.
