Happy New Year Marcos Nice post and I have to agree with the thrust. I have been ruminating for months now that we are where we are so from this point how can we make things better. No recriminations, no anger--you wanna tackle it? I came up with the declare victory and partner with iran in shiastan and with the pashmeraga in kurdistan and try to control the mess in the triangle by removing our forces and allowing them to sort things out. I even wondered if sunni nationalists and the foreign terrorists would come to blows. Mike

<Something did need to be done about Hussein> Absolutely something needed to be done -- no argument there. And what needed to be done also needed to be done in a legitimate manner. We have criminals on our streets -- they must be dealt with, but they must be dealt with according to our laws and system of justice. We do not brush that aside by referring to some criminals as unworthy of being treated according to the law. By resorting to unilateralism we harmed ourselves, and we harmed the world we live in. We destroyed more than we gained -- and these days it looks like we gained next to nothing. I am in complete agreement with you -- except for one point: Until we grapple with the core policy issue -- US unilateralism -- we will get nowhere in making the word a better place.
