The Dems don't have any momentum so it might be possible to get something going there. Not likely, but there's a crack.

There is some truth in that. OTOH the libertarian themes that fit in with conservatism (lower taxes, restraint on spending, to a small extent federalism) probably have more support both among conservatives and among the general population, than the libertarian ideas that fit in with liberalism (legalizing prostitution, legalizing drugs, and to a small extent isolationism at least in terms of military action) have among liberals or among the general population.

(I know that restraint on spending is not a hallmark of the Bush administration, but it is an idea that conservatives would in general support, I know there are many centralizing conservatives, or liberal war supporters but I'm going for general trends and I did say "to a small extent" for each of those things)
