That's like fornicating to promote virginity...it doesn't work. Bush has no plan. They are winging it. They do not have a consensus of the Iraqi people. They are working off the consensus of the inner circle. A circle of oilmen and neocons who think they need to expand US influence, militarily if necessary to meet their goals. Imagine a plan that instead of killing the people supports the people? Imagine a plan that opens up channels of communication rather than closes them down? Bush's war in Iraq is hurting the country, and it's not freeing the people of Iraq. All we did was cut the head off the serpent, Saddam. But now the beast has sprouted three heads. There were many ways to bring peace to the middle east. Bombs are not the way. Now when folks are attacking you...you have a right to defend yourself. Or when you know that folks are planning to attack you, you have a right to defend and counter. None of that was happening in Iraq. We had a golden opportunity to expand peaceful influences in Iraq. That opportunity has been squandered at a high cost in blood and treasure. We had the inspectors back in there. We could have fostered peace and prosperity in Iraq and elsewhere without firing a single shot. Now this would have required a massive diplomatic effort with our allies, putting pressure on Iraq to make reforms. The pressure is not bombs...it's incentives to join a peaceful union of nations. I truly believe that by carrying a big stick and speaking softly, ie aggressive diplomacy, that we could be much further along in Iraq to bringing freedom to Iraq's people. We had it all going our way...then we opened up the pandora's box by going for a military occupation. I think we needed to reserve our military strength for more important issues. Number one would be actual terrorists that are attacking the US...like Al Qaeda. Here's some other places where having adequate military response is essential...Iran, who are developing a nuclear bomb, N. Korea who has the bomb and loose nukes in the FSU. We have spread resources too thin by trying to occupy Iraq. And we have spent precious resources in doing so...all in an effort that will likely fail. Why will it fail? It fails because as soon as we pull out, the remaining three heads on the serpent will try to eat each others head off. There needed to be an incentive for all parties to work together. Developing interaction and trade such as we do in China would have been more effective in Iraq than the war we are prosecuting. As we get bogged down in Iraq, Iran and N. Korea begin to thumb their nose at the world becoming more and more determined to get an N-bomb. Why do they want it? Because look at the autonomy that the N-bomb gives to the nations that have it! Pakistan is a prime example. Here OBL hides under the skirt of the Pakistan hinterlands, and the US military is hamstrung to do anything, because of the politics and the bomb. If the smoking gun is going to be a nuclear bomb, it's not coming from Iraq...and it wasn't coming from Iraq. We've been sold a bill of goods regarding the reasons for war in Iraq. Much more could have been accomplished with out the war in Iraq, there's no doubt about that. And much more could have been done to secure peace in the rest of the world as well. Our focus and use of resources is completely misguided under Bush. Orca
