Below is certainly an overstatement by Nadine, but there certainly are leftists who do believe it. And once believed one tends to make excuses for saddam much like excuses were made for stalin in the 1940s.
Obviously you dont feel that way but you do have folks who do in oranizations such as moveon.org as well as individuals like Michael Moore and Ramsey Clark.

"For the Left, anti-Americanism trumps all - if America is your enemy, all your sins are forgiven as if they had never been."

If the people of Iraq had went after Saddam like they are going after the Americans and people that support the Americans, it would never have been necessary for us to deal with Saddam.

Nadine, Mother Jones was covering the killing of Kurds in Iraq, BY Saddam WHEN they happened, before SI existed

That only proves my point. Back in the 80's, Saddam was still an American still an American ally of sorts. So the Left could notice his crimes. Once he became America's enemy, his crimes vanished from the Left's notice. Please show me where the Left noticed his crimes POST Gulf War I?

Jude Wanniski, meanwhile, is running around claiming the Saddam never gassed the Kurds at all.
