Replying to Dobry's "The MTHO was used by terrorists, so because Tony gave money to them he must be a terrorist" argument is exactly the same as my "Everything that is red isn't a firetruck but it wasn't a firetruck anyhow" example. Yes, it's important to continually set the record straight, but keep in mind that Dobry's mind just isn't capable of handling anything more complicated than something akin to "If it isn't black it must be white", and then only on a "good" day ;^).

Good post, Bill.

A few more points:

Back in 2002 concern about 9/11 was even greater than it is now. Many people were arrested and charged in connection with terrorist acts, some on very flimsy evidence. Does anyone really think the same wouldn't have happened to Tony if they'd found anything even approaching proof? If he were really involved with Al Qaeda (please note correct spelling, Pugs), would he have got bail?

Instead, they turned up his connection to Royer and Cleveland, and are prosecuting him for that. Despite the attention the trial is getting on the message boards from people who knew or knew of Tony, in the larger scheme of things it's pretty small potatoes. Why bother if they could nail him for terrorism and try to get more information about terrorist activities from him?

Doesn't make any sense at all.

Let's see...Pudgy Dobry is in Chicago - has he ever used the alias "Arnaout"?

in.rediff.com

Prosecutors allege that Arnaout directed his charity to commingle millions of dollars of donations to hide the true purposes of the money. The charity's suburban Chicago headquarters was raided and its assets frozen in late 2001 as part of the US-led campaign to choke off funding for militant groups after the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.

He could be the 'mastermind' behind it all...using PugsLogic of course.
