Hi Art:

I am using a Samsung SCH-A670 and I've had several friends and family try their phones at the property......all of which are different models by different manufacturers......none of which worked.

I think your comment about VZ wanting to hang on to their wired customers for as long as possible is spot on. I will have the ability to hook up with a wired service as soon as we get a cabin built......how convenient! I'd of course rather not. My cell phone is all I really need here in the lowlands, and the idea of having to subscribe to another wired service T's me off.

Obviously the reason I can't get service on my cell phone has everything to do with the mountainous terrain, but I also believe that in the eyes of VZ, the small population in this area doesn't warrant installing a cell tower.

Someone pmd me about using an external antennae with a power booster. That sounds expensive, but I bet in the long run it would be cheaper than having to pay for a land line from now till eternity.

I managed to pick up a weak signal on my Samsung once or twice, but neither one lasted long enough to start, let alone finish, a call. Maybe an external antenna would solve the problem, which would happily allow me to forego the idea of having to subscribe to a wired phone?

One can always hope!

M
