The activity in the Ukraine was one of the first and strongest examples of a united European Union foreign policy. While some of this may have started with the US and NATO allies, this Eastward expansion of Europe is being pushed by the EU.

This expansion will run up hard against Russia,

It will also spread up to the Islamic states.

No more buffer states with in-between policies and security forces to watch troublemakers.

Longer term, many of the Islamic Central Asian countires have oil, water, and are pathways to China.

Europeans have long had fears of hordes from the East - Mongols, Attila, Huns, etc.

Central Asia could become Europe's frontier, and primary security concern.
