Yes Grainne, Saskatchewan. Alcohol in cold weather climes can actually save your life because it contains energy if you drink it correctly by sipping it slowly.

More chronic drinkers in Saskatchewan can claim disability benefits and are treated the same way as other disabled people which of course enshrines weakness and encourages boozing.

I can only think of a few people who do not drink and they are mostly recovering alcholics. The Indians here do a lot of drugs such as crystal meth and the cheaper street drugs while their kids sniff solvents. I stick mostly to red wine and Mexican beer.

It is about minus 33 here right now and I'm just going on a short trek to check on a cow that is supposed to deliver tonight. This cow belongs to a friend. I have very little idea what to do to assist a cow so I hope she has dropped the calf in her three feet of straw bedding, cleaned it, nursed it and it is fast asleep. She is inside where the temperature is zero which is considered optimum for a range cow to deliver in.
