You are absolutely correct that economic growth is the only possible solution to the long term problem. Somehow 2 people have to become as productive as 5 people today or the whole thing collapses.

I also agree with you that it is a bad program in principle.

When I was a boy very few women worked outside the home. Today most do. In one generation we have in effect doubled the workforce and unemployment has actually dropped.

We don't give our economic system enough credit for this astonishing accomplishment.

I have subsequently seen how growth can mitigate problems.
