I think whatever happens militarily in Syria will not be on a grand scale. Punitive, yes, but not sufficiently so as to provoke anything large.

Its military, while large, is not equipped to take on the US. It would be annihilated if it came into Iraq. Everything I see suggess a lack of preparation and general efficiency:

I think the US response will be very focused, something that the Syrians won't be able to do much about.

Here is a very good blog on Syria. Well worth monitoring in the next few days.

Syria is a formidable force. Much of their equipment may be antiquated but they do not lack motivation to kill Jews, Christians and Americans

And they have a defense pact with Iran, which means with Hizbullah also.
