RE:"AMD needs to get RID of flash and FAST! Selling to Samsung would be a beautiful jujitsu move! It will immediately remove the commodity leverage that Intel has over AMD as well as transfer control of it to Samsung. They can play the pricing game with Samsung all decade long.

Good idea but would Samsung want a division running on last generation processes?

BTW, what generation process is Samsung making flash on? Where are there FABS? What are their costs to make flash vs AMD and Intels?

Selling to Samsung would be a beautiful jujitsu move!

Indeed. An AMD without a bleeding achilles heel and considerably reduced dept-weight after a sale would certainly look better.

Now it only takes somebody to convince a Korean company to run fabs in Japan, one of them being on 350nm technology. :-)
However, it is not impossible.

Elmer keeps insisting that Intel goes about their business w/o a care re. AMD and AMD's (lack of!) well being. Obviously it's not obvious to him!

Now you're starting to sound like Petz. That's not what I said. My point was that while Intel is very aware of AMD and takes them very seriously, Intel's world does not revolve around AMD in the same way that AMD's world revolves around Intel. Intel has many other business lines that do not compete with AMD. AMD has virtually no product lines that don't compete with Intel.
