You lived in a tent in the woods, on a platform? For how long? That sounds very peaceful and . . . uncomfortable?

I do live in the woods, but in a house. There are beautiful rustic winding country lanes through the hills, and birds singing all day, but still it is not remote. Trader Joe's is only about an eight-mile hike through the forest, along the river and through the shopping mall.

Mr. Grainne did stop eating meat when I did, but he could have continued to outside our home. I just lost any willingness to touch, smell, clean, stuff or stew dead animals in my kitchen. He could have put on his snowshoes and trekked to McDonald's anytime. But pretty soon meat started smelling bad when we went near it, and the butcher's counter at our grocery store became like a slaughter house horror movie to both of us, really obscene and stinking . . .
