moenmac, Yes I have. In the wild, a person usually can only see them from a distance, but their evening songs seem to echo from mountain to mountain for miles. In the Sierra Nevada forest, about 2 miles from Lake Tahoe, I was walking for the fun of being in fairly unspoiled nature, and came face, to face, with a wolf at about 50 yards away. I stopped, he stopped, and we just looked at each other for what seemed to be an eternity. He sensed that I meant him no harm, and just walked away slowly. That feeling was exhilarating, along with a pinch of unease on my part.

Have you seen.....or heard Wolves in the wild?

Spent time in Nome a while back. A certain antipathy to wolves on the part of the reindeer herders kept the wolf population pretty low on the peninsula. But there were some.

A bud erected a cabin a few miles out of town and staked the corners to the ground he was claiming. One beautifully moonlit night a wolf came by and challenged ownership by marking all four corners. Then he sat and watched us watching from maybe 150' away for an hour or so.

Impressive sight!
