Allen, one can take any piece of info and twist to suit their argument. I've followed apple as an investor and user for many years. I don't see the halo effect. Take the next two qtrs to see whether I'm right or wrong. Also, many people won't switch over no matter what given how much S/W they already have on Windows. While I prefer OSX, Windows isn't as bad as many say it is. They just don't know how to use the system safely without getting screwed by viruses or trojan horses, worms and etc... I think the real switchers Apple would and should want are the corporate ones not only the home user. I haven't seen Apple making a compelling package to attract such switchers in droves. Yes OSX is great but the H/W is mucho expensive when compared. But I detract.... FYI I use both platforms but my preference is with OSX.

The corporatization of Spyware

Spyware is not just a kid his bedroom exploiting easy Windows holes anymore:

Those are pretty big chunks of money.

Trojans exploit Windows DRM loophole

File traders are going to be feeling it too. These guys tend to be more computer savvy than your average user. As they suffer from viruses and spyware embedded into media files they are going to start switching too.

Another thing, I think few people have considered is how band width affects virus and spyware replication. Bigger bandwidth means that small malware can install itself almost instantaneously and larger files can be used as trojans. I think this virus thing is going to get a LOT worse before it gets better and few people are considering that.

My pal just IM'd me. He's a hardcore Windows Java programmer who likes Linux. He's thinking about getting a mini. I think once he gets a taste of OSX he'll be hooked.
