I have promised not to argue the I/P issue history any longer. But i will argue current politics. GSTs contention that israeli leaders side with the terrorists in their struggle with folks like abbas is absurd. However, I do disagree with you on Abbas. We just dont know how his Presidency will evolve. Just as Bush and Kerry played to their base, in a sense the terrorists are his base, but not necessarily in the way you think. Although they represent a minority opionion in Pal politics they are still the most powerful group Abbas has to deal with because they have guns. Cracking down on them may come some day but the first step is to get them do enter into a cease fire. Then progress in talks and growing power of the PA can begin to manifest itself in the ability of Abbas police to stop the terrorists if they resume their evil ways. I believe Sharon and Abbas will work together privately--Abbas doing the above and Sharon pacifying the right. The hope for peace is much like the Chanukah holiday--how to keep that flickering candle going for a little longer. MIke
