This is not about a new economy. Read your history books, John. The 1930's hangover was a result of the Great Depression. During the 1930's and afterwards a bunch of safeguards were put into our economic system and into our stock markets to ensure that the complete meltdown that occurred in the Great Depression would not occur again. In addition, the world of finance has advanced dramatically.

Finance today as compared to finance of the 1930s is similar to technology today compared to technology of the 1930s. Alot has changed. Surely, John, you aren't so old that you can't acknowledge that the pace of change occurs in more industries than just technology.

One very recent (1996) invention was the target-date fund. It was specifically created to provide financial planner type returns for the masses, at an affordable price.

Anyway, if we are now arguing over whether finance is more advanced now than in the 1930s, then this is truly a hopeless debate. It almost feels as if I am arguing with you and others about the fact that 2 plus 2 equals 4. You are saying that it does not and I'm finding it difficult to believe that you can honestly believe it doesn't.
