In most sports of any kind there are more men competing, so you have a bigger pool of players from which to pick the elite, and you have more resources put in to developing talent.

It is obvious that men are in general bigger and stronger than women. There is no argument about that. But not all men are bigger and stronger than all women. There is considerable overlap.

In any case, bigger and stronger does not always mean better in sports that require skills.

Wayne Gretsky was not the biggest, strongest, or fastest skater in the NHL. But he was clearly the best.

Ichiro is not the biggest and strongest baseball player. In fact he is pretty small and light weight for a modern day (steroid loaded) baseball player, yet he has won two batting titles.

John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg are not giants as far as physical attributes go.

In figure skating, equestrian sports, swimming, gymnastics, long distance endurance running (marathon & ultra marathons) the female anatomy may be better suited.

In golf, 15 year old Michelle Wie can hit a golf ball more than 300 yards and can play against the best men players.

Who knows how far women can go in sports? Women have just begun participating in sports.

What difference will it make if Michelle Wie beats Tiger Woods in golf, if Serena Williams can beat John McEnroe in Tennis, or Paula Radcliff beats the best American (home grown) marathon runner.

In fact, I think Paula Radcliff, in the London marathon beat all British male runners.

The lesson is, we should not let bigotry limit us from achieving our full potential.

Bigotry is not limited to race, gender, and creed. Bigotry is just stupid stuff.
