The one about the woman who goes off with friends to hunt for her father who disappeared is really striking. It's so southern in its way. The dying litte town... the wierd family... the dislocated speaker.

Ion may have read that one at some time. "Surfacing" by Margaret Atwood.
I like it because the "feel" of the landscape is how it is
where I spend much of my time -- a kind of "edge of the wilderness" feel.
