A friend sent this email to me right before the holiday break and I think he may be right on target when he describes our current situation in the United States...

The people who get promoted are those who maintain strict loyalty to Bush and the neocon agenda. These same people are never disciplined for dishonesty.

What we have today is far from the pragmatism practiced by other Republican presidents in the past, such as Dwight Eisenhower or Herbert Hoover. Today, we have an ideologically driven, messianic version of "Conservatism" that is actually in most ways extremely radical and a completely new development in Presidential politics.

The imperial overreach that Bush is engaged in would not have been possible under Reagan or even under Bush 41...

We're in a whole new ballgame where loyalty trumps honesty, greed trumps public service and illegitimate empire trumps the legitimate role of government in providing for the people...>>
