The opening premise is incorrect, though. Grandfathered members do have to pay to get premium features just like everybody else. As far as having some unrestricted posting ability and PM usage, they did, after all, help found the site into a groundswell to make it a success. Still have to pay for premium stuff like advanced search. What conflict do you see in that?

You're not being short-changed, and you were never promised all new features forever. For that matter, new lifetime subscribers aren't promised that either.

One more time:

The ONLY difference between a "new" lifetime subscriber and an "old" lifetime subscriber is that new lifetime subscriptions comes with a 1-year Premium-Plus subscription. At the end of one year, if they do not re-subscribe to P+, they will lose the premium features and be just like another other lifetime/grandfathered user; unlimited posting and batch reads 10 at a time. No advanced search, no batches>10, no read-by-user, no "kept" messages, etc.

If it makes you feel better, the lifetime subscriptions recently sold were as a package: $180.00 for lifetime status, and $19.95 for one-year of Premium-Plus features. The P+ subscriptions was extended to 12 full months when P+ was officially launched December 8th. Likewise, all quarterly, semi-annual, and annual subscriptions still in force were likewise extended.

Any "old" lifetime subscriber or grandfathered user can achieve equivalence by purchasing 12 months of P+ for $19.95, the same price paid by new lifetime subscribers. That will also apply to new lifetime subscribers at the end of their subscription.

I do feel cheated when others, who have never paid a dime to SI, have equal access as those of us who actually paid to be a "Lifetime" member

Why didn't you speak up about it when you signed up, back in 1997? Grandfathered of us didn't have to pay a ¢ back then for what you got when you forked over your (inflation not adjusted) dough.
