Those old apartheid promoters from RSA did like to say they'd studied Canada's indian affairs system for ideas, and in a sense it was true, except they weren't looking to it as a model, they were looking for propaganda points they could use to deflect attention from their regime .... it was indefensible, all they could do was try to distract in ways like that, point the finger elsewhere ... so then it went poof, one less Excludostaat, and good riddance

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. The risk in assimilation is loss of identity -- taking Indian children away from their parents (for example)is a form of assimilation -- the worst form. There must be something better than complete assimilation if assimilation means culture death.
