>It doesn't take a genius to see why in a country that is 82% Christian, people gravitate to Republicans, who have traditionally been for family values, "God and country", and banning abortion.

"Gravitate?" The split in this country is just about even -- remember, Bush won the popular vote by two points.

I've realized over the last few weeks that we're still close enough on the issues that elections just go to the better campaign, not to the candidate that better reflects our country's stance on the issues.

When you say pushing gay marriage what you are saying is really denying a group their civil rights.

Do you know for instance that married couples get tax breaks ?

Do you know that when a property is sold that the tax break for a married couple on capital gains is $ 500.000

Do you know that when a husband or wife die the property passes to the living spouse... no tax involved.

When a same sex couple living together for 50 years will have to pay tax on the entire inheritance. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MARRIED.

When a married spouse enters the hospital visitation rights are given. A same sex couple the one partner can be forbidden to see the other by family. In one instance I know the parents of one of the two kicked the partner out of the house and denied visitation rights to the partner who was dying. The surviving partner never even got to say good-bye.

There is something about fairness here and rights for every human being and Americans.

Marriage is NOT threatening the marriage of anyone. It is just a right that all couples who love one another should have under the aegis of nothing more than Civil Rights.

IMHO only.

What I would say, though, is that Democrats are the ones pushing atheism, abortion, and gay marriage.

Democrats are not "pushing" those controversial issues; rather, democrats tend to favor allowing individuals the choice to make their own decisions about those controversial issues rather than have the government mandate one side. I can be personally opposed to abortion and still think it should be legally available to people who are not opposed to it. That's different from "pushing" abortion.

re:"The left today resembles the morals of secular France, and France we are not"

Hate to be the one that breaks this to you, but the US is officially a secular democracy.... And what is your evidence that the democrats are "pushing" atheism? An atheist is one who, by definition, has given religion a lot of thought. In most instances, far more thought than religious folks....
