Once the jury determined it was all about the money, their entire mindset probably changed, making it easy to convict him.

That's ridiculous.

Capitalism is about learning, working, saving, capital formation and return on investment and making the world better through constructive, useful activities which people choose to buy. It's not about racketeering, securities fraud, extortion, money grubbing etc.

Tony didn't "need" the info he got to whack a POS. By getting himself embroiled in this, Tony just gave every crappy scam a boost in "illusory legitimacy".
