Several months ago, I read an article about a mixed couple in England that had twin daughters. One unmistakeably "white", the other unmistakeably "black", in terms of appearance. Hard on the kids through school ....

"These children were, at minimum, 3/4 European in ancestry. What race were they?"

As far as that goes -- how can you tell whether someone is Irish, English, German, Scandinavian, Russian, or Dutch, just by looking at them?

As I kid in Africa, I could generally tell the two major tribes of Zimbabwe apart visually. I remember being shocked when traveling through Europe and realizing that I could largely do the same with English or German whites.

CB,

Medicine and political fashion should be separate.

Any Doctor not doing due diligence on asking genetic questions when suspecting a genetic disease is an idiot.

Any Doctor not looking at ethnic diseases and asking those questions is a potential killer.

I know. At this point in time over 70 members of my family have had blood tests and biopsies for a specific Northern European ailment. We lost 2 aunts to a disease no one was looking for - probably because of political ideas similar to yours.

So far an Aunt, one of my sisters, both her children, 2 Uncles and 4 cousins have tested positive (I and my children were negative on biopsy after false-positive on blood tests).

All of this started when the Aunt, after almost dying, was seen by a diagnostician who started an interview by asking if she was of Irish extraction (despite a german married name the red hair and blue eyes were his marker).

Have you heard of tay-sachs, would it be improper to ask if someone with symptoms was of jewish heritage?

Sally Hemings was herself a quadroon and "pretty near white" according to those who knew her. So her children were octaroons, 7/8 white, and some clearly moved north and "passed".
