IMO, behavior like that transcends partisan politics
and punishing it appropriately is important.

I am certain that there are many black minors in the
system, housed at youth authorities, who committed
similar if not lesser acts of vandalism.

Why should these smart-alecks be given a break?
They knew better.
They just thought they would escape punishment due to who
they are.

Bottom line: I don't favor leniency.
Whatever is appropriate under the law should be imposed.
