Interesting discussion..I've read parts of the thread including the BiDil study for African-Americans..

Having worked in the Pedi field since '81(although not recently) when reporting on a patient in rounds, race or ethnic background was probably the second piece of demographic we listed as in: "This is a 5yo. Caucasian or African-American, or Hispanic or bi-racial, or Ethiopian immigrant, Eastern European immigrant(esp. when Communism collapsed)..

There have been study after study of differences in prevalence and or treatment outcomes for such common illnesses as heart disease, asthma, hepatitisC, and on and on...

The BiDil study eventhough run by the African-American Cardiology Association, imho, brought out the PC pundits looking for a microphone..the AA physicians running the study no more want 'racial profiling' than any of the PCers..

If not for racial/ethnic observations/studies we'd not know why the Mediterranean diet is healthy for your heart, why some Russians and Japanese people live well past 100, why the French have lower heart disease despite consuming cheeses, etc..

Just my few cents!...
