It's easy to blast analysts especially when their opinion differs from yours. Of course, the difference of opinion creates an opportunity if you have sources of information that refute the analyst's thesis.

Exactly....I love it when an analyst downgrades a company ahead of a quarter where I think I have some visibility into how the quarter went. Unfortunately, I dont really have that type of certainty with Sandisk and this quarter. It seems that sales of flash based products went well, but Samsung's ASP decline was more than forecast and their bit production was higher. This wouldnt be a good combination for Sandisk if they had problems at FlashVision.

On the captive side as well, we think margins were below the company's expectation, given the greater than expected price decline and the yield issues with 90nm production.

What yield issues?

Dave, I relied on company data that was available to the public prior to the earnings announcement today. Bear Stearns had other ideas, apparently based on nothing more than a hunch. They were dead wrong, but their early pronouncement had a dramatic effect on the price of SNDK shares.

Now here's my hunch: They intentionally downgraded the shares in order to get a buying opportunity for themselves and their clients. What other possible conclusion can one reach, given the timing of their announcement?
