I think I could tell English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish apart.

Yeah, but could you tell an Egyptian from a Saudi Arabian? A Korean from a Thai?

A new kabob joint recently opened near me. I have an assortment of kabob joints that I frequent. One is run by Iranians. Another by Lebanese. The rest, I don't know. This new one is particularly puzzling because there are no pictures of the old country on the wall and some of the food is indistinguishable to me from Indian. I had a rude awakening one day at the Iranian place, which is next door to an Hispanic laundry. I assumed some patrons were ME until they started speaking Spanish.

And then there was the woman who drew my blood a few months ago who looked Ethiopian who, during a conversation on restaurants, to told me she was a member of some ancient Persian (I think it was) tribe that lived in Lebanon.

I can pretty reliably identify Japanese but other Asian nationalities are iffy. There are so many different looks in China, which throws things off. If you can distinguish, I'm impressed.

In case you think I'm fixated on ethnicity, it's just that I eat lunch alone in ethnic restaurants most days... <g>

Not even the Nazis could tell a German from an Englishman.

If handed a set of three photos grouped into two sets as shown above, I think many people could correctly identify English Isles, vs. Germanic European.

I couldn't. And I have both of those (probably - going by name on the english part) in my family tree.
