Dear Pete, We have been down this before, except now Intel needs 2MB L2s to compete with ODMCs with just 256KB. We have been down this before except AMD now needs ODMC to compete with Intel's larger caches.

Pete: The point of my post was simply that 1). 40 mm2 die sizes will not happen, regardless of node, and 2). AMD's capacity, despite Fab 36 and Chartered, is not going to get them to 50 - 100% of world-wide demand. As far as "you want it to be true that AMD must follow Intel down blind alleys filled with dead ends" goes, I have a large AMD position and want exactly the opposite. I'm just trying to temper some of the claims regarding the result of its expansion plans. 25 - 30% would be fantastic, and I hope we get there. I value the majority of your posts.
